    Description

RARE CUT & POLISHED GLASS HEX SHAPE OPEN SALT CELLAR DIP HAND-PAINTED FLOWERS
This is a very high quality little open salt cellar; it is a hexagon shape and has been very finely cut and polished on every facet and has a twelve-point star on the underside.
What makes this rare in my mind are the hand painted flowers.
According to the book mentioned below the authors write that this is probably of English origin and dates to 1895.
Regardless, this is a gorgeous piece of high-quality hand-made pressed elegant glass that has been enhanced by being cut and polished on every facet and then hand painted.
It is made in a beautiful pale “honey” amber colored glass.
It is incredible to me the amount of work it took to produce this little salt.
First it was pressed in a mold and then it was ground and polished (cut glass) on all six sides and both the top and bottom.
Then it was further ground and polished on all of the long corner edges on both the top and the bottom, which is twelve more places.
After all that, then it was hand painted with lovely white flowers.
What an incredibly high-quality piece glass in such a tiny package.
I am gradually selling my salt cellar and individual nut dish collection that at one time was over 1,800 pieces.
This particular piece has been in my collection since 1984.
Salts of a similar size and shape are pictured in the book
    5,000 Open Salts: A Collector’s Guide
by William Heacock and Patricia Johnson as Photos # 344 & # 577.
This book, as mentioned, also states that the green salt is probably English and made circa 1895.
I had always felt these were most likely from the elegant glass era of the 1920s or 1930s, but I could of course be wrong.
In the most recent price guide I have for this book shows the green colored one of these as “S” for scarce.
There is not even a pale amber colored one of these pictured in this book.
I had numerous ones of this style and shape in my collection at one time but I want to stress, this is the only hand painted one of these I have ever seen.
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
The piece dates to circa 1895-1930.
    This piece is in
excellent to near mint original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
There is some extremely minor roughness to the inside edge of the top rim, which could even be the result of the factory grinding & polishing process.
There is also some minor loss to the hand painted decoration.
This is all very minor to me and is consistent with and exactly what I would expect to see on a piece of glass of this age.
Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs.
Really in super condition for its age.
Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions
About 1.375” (3.5 cm) across the flat panels and sits about .625” (1.6 cm) off the table.
    Approximate Weight
    About .75 ounce (24 grams).
